Ready Lawn - FAQ

1. How long does Ready Lawn take to install?
Most lawns are installed in 1–2 days, depending on size and access. We take care of full site prep, turf delivery, laying, and tidy-up—so you get instant results without the stress.
2. How soon can I walk on or use my new lawn?
Light foot traffic is fine immediately, but we recommend limiting heavy use (like kids, pets, or garden furniture) for the first few weeks. This gives the roots time to settle properly.
3. When can I mow my new Ready Lawn?
Wait until the turf has rooted—usually after 2–3 weeks. You can test by gently tugging at a corner. Use a sharp mower blade and follow the recommended mowing height for your turf type.
4. What’s the best Ready Lawn for Wellington?
We recommend Tall Fescue—a dark green, hardy turf with excellent drought resistance and wear tolerance. It’s ideal for Wellington’s changing climate, active households, and pet use.
5. Can I choose a different turf type?
Yes! On our Grass Types Page, we also offer Play Lawn, Multi Lawn, Fine Lawn, and Bermuda (Couch). Just let us know your preference at least 14 days before installation, and we’ll check availability.
6. Do you install turf year-round?
Yes, we install in all seasons. Spring and autumn are ideal, but with proper care (watering or frost protection), turf can be successfully installed in winter or summer.
7. What preparation do you do before laying turf?
We remove and dispose of old grass or debris, level and lightly compact a 50mm organic lawn mix base, apply a fertilizer. This creates the ideal base for strong root establishment and drainage.
8. How often should I water my new lawn?
Water daily for the first 2–3 weeks, especially during dry spells. Once roots are established, you can reduce watering to 2–3 times per week, or as needed based on weather.
9. How do I control weeds or moss?
Mow regularly, remove weeds as they spout, and treat trouble spots early. We offer a monthly spray service called The Healthy Lawns Program with treatments for weeds, moss, grubs and more.
10. Is Ready Lawn pet-friendly?
Yes! Tall Fescue is ideal for pets—it holds up to wear, has no toxic chemicals, and is easy to clean after pets. We’ll also advise on considerations to prevent urine spots or odor.
11. Do I need to fertilize my new lawn?
Yes—healthy lawns need nutrients. Start fertilizing after 3–4 weeks, then seasonally. Or join our Healthy Lawns Program to let us handle it for you.
12. Will Ready Lawn grow in shaded areas?
Yes, but it’s important to choose the right type. Fine Lawn handles shade better than others, while Tall Fescue is better for sun and traffic. We can help match the turf to your site conditions.
13. How long does Ready Lawn last?
With good care and maintenance, indefinitely. Durability depends on mowing, irrigation, traffic, and turf type. We’ll give you tips to maximize lifespan from day one.
14. Can I install Ready Lawn myself?
Yes, we offer supply-only turf for DIY installs. We’ll provide pick-up or delivery options and care advice. For best results we recommend professional installation.
15. What are the turf roll dimensions and delivery options?
Each roll of Ready Lawn measures 2.5m x 0.4m and covers 1m². Rolls are 10–15mm thick and weigh around 15–18kg depending on moisture content. Turf is delivered on pallets, with up to 50 rolls per pallet, depending on turf type and season.
16. Is there a minimum order and can it be delivered?
The minimum order is 3m², BUT delivery fees are based on a per pallet cost so the price per m² is higher with smaller orders. We recommend order +5-10% more than what you need to account for variations and angles.
We’ll work with you to schedule delivery that suits your project. As delivery costs vary please get in touch with us for a fixed quote.
