Planning & Site Assessment

• We confirm turf type and total area (plus a little extra for trimming).

• We check for drainage needs, sun/shade, access, and assess the turf type required.

• Preferred turf:Tall Fescue—ideal for Wellington’s climate, drought-tolerant and hardy.

Site Preparation

• Remove existing grass or debris down to 30–60mm depth and remove from site.

• Bring in a lush organic lawn mix, full of nutrients and developed for good drainage

• Level, grade and lightly compact the soil, ensuring gentle slope away from structures for water runoff.

Base Conditioning

• We add a granular fertilizer to help give your lawn the best start.

• Final raking ensures a soft, level bed ready for turf.

Turf Delivery & Handling

• Turf is ordered and delivered on pallets to a depo

• We collect the turf and transport it to site, fresh from the farm, ready to lay immediately.

• Each roll measures 2.5m x 0.4m, covering 1m², and weighs approx. 15–18kg depending on moisture content, we do all the heavy lifting.

Turf Installation

• Turf rolls are laid in a staggered pattern, edges tight and seams offset.

• We avoid gaps or overlaps and gently press seams for a neat join.

• A lawn roller is used to ensure strong turf-to-soil contact.

Watering In

• Turf is watered immediately after install, soaking the entire lawn to encourage rooting.

• We provide DIY watering schedule and care instructions to help the lawn establish.

Using Your Lawn

• Keep off for 5–7 days. Light walking is okay, but no mowing, playing or pets until turf roots begin to anchor.

Watering

• Keeping soil moist is important to help the roots take hold.

• Water once a day or even twice during the drier months.

• Avoid waterlogging the soil, especially in shady or clay-heavy areas.

First Mow

• Usually after 2–3 weeks, when turf resists lifting by hand.

• Use a sharp mower on the highest setting and reduce gradually in following cuts.

• Follow our mowing height guide based on your turf type.

Aftercare & Seasonal Support

• Apply a starter fertiliser 3–4 weeks after installation.

• Join our Healthy Lawns Program for monthly spray services including:

  • Seasonal fertilisers

  • Pest control (grass grub, porina)

  • Prickle and weed prevention

• Water deeply, not lightly: Frequent, shallow watering encourages shallow roots.

• Mow regularly: Avoid cutting more than 1/3 of the grass blade at a time. Use sharp mower blades.
