Artificial Turf – FAQ

1. How long does artificial turf last?

With proper care, our turf lasts 15-20+ years. It's built to withstand NZ weather, UV exposure, and heavy use.

2. Is synthetic grass safe for children and pets?

Yes! All our products are lead-free, heavy metal-free, and pet- and child-safe. They're soft underfoot and non-toxic.

3. Can artificial turf get hot in the summer?

Turf can warm under direct sun, but our self-cooling turf options help reduce heat. A quick hose-down cools it instantly.

4. Does artificial turf drain properly after rain?

Absolutely. Our turf and base systems are designed for excellent drainage, preventing pooling or soggy areas. With sub-base correctly installed, there’s no risk of water pooling.

5. What kind of maintenance does artificial turf need?

Minimal! Just brush regularly, remove debris, and rinse occasionally. We also offer monthly turf care plans. Check out our maintenance page for details.

6. How much does artificial turf installation cost?

Installation typically range from $140-$270 + GST per m² depending on a few factors like the size area (scale), sub-base depth, labour and access requirements. We offer free quotes tailored for your specific site.

7. Can artificial turf be installed over concrete or pavers?

Yes, with proper prep and adhesive. We can also add shock-pads or drainage layers for safety and comfort.

8. Will weeds grow through artificial turf?

Rarely. We use geotextile weed cloth and compacted bases. Most likely, weeds will grow from the top down. We recommend manual removal before they have a chance to root into the base or turf-safe sprays work if any sneak through the perforations in the turf.

9. What base preparation is required?

This depends on the substrate but as standard, we excavate to 100mm below final design level, and install a geotextile mat. We then bring in and compact a GAP 20 base, compact and grade a paving sand levelling layer, and install a treated timber edging for stability.

10. Is artificial turf environmentally friendly?

The environmental benefits are that it reduces water use, removes the need for lawn chemicals, removes the need to mow which eliminates the use of fossil fuels every other weekend. Our company policy is to recycle turf offcuts and infill materials so very little goes to waste.

11. Does artificial grass look fake?

Times have changed! Fake grass doesn’t need to look fake at all! Well, at least our natural 35 product doesn’t. Our turf has natural colours, wavy yarn, realistic textures and is designed to look like the real thing! Most people can't tell the difference once it’s been installed and brushed up!

12. What’s the difference between turf types (e.g. 30mm vs 40mm)?

Pile height affects feel and appearance. 30–35mm suits homes and pets, while 40mm+ is ideal for schools and high-traffic areas.

13. Do you offer warranties on turf and installation?

Yes! Our turf has an 8-year product warranty, and our installs are backed by a 12-month workmanship guarantee.

14. Can artificial turf be installed on sloped or uneven areas?

Yes, we specialize in tight access and tricky Wellington sites. We'll prep the base to suit your landscape. Slopes over 20 degrees require some special considerations. Each site will be individually assessed.

15. How soon can I use my new lawn after installation?

Right away! It will take a few days for the turf sand to bed down properly but for light use it is good to go. We recommend waiting 24–48 hours to allow sand infill to settle fully before heavy use.
